The development of IT regime has significantly contributed to the transformation of traditional approaches towards the digitalized regime. Commercial engagements are not an exception in this regard. Growing steadily, e-commerce transactions too give rise to disputes. However, the dispute resolution and redress mechanisms are conducted through the traditional approaches in Sri Lanka. There are numerous drawbacks affecting the effectiveness of the existing system. Demands arise for an alternative dispute settlement approach related to e-commerce that would satisfy the consumers’ interest for a speedy, efficient, cheaper and free of encumbrances system. In such a context, this paper explores the benefits of implementing Online Dispute Resolution (ODR). This paper evaluates the lessons of European Union (EU) and considers the system of ODR that will ensure the fundamental right of access to redress and facilitate building of trust in e-commerce transactions thereby contributing to the country’s economy.en_US
