Publication Embargo Qualitative Analysis of Automated Visual Tracking of Objects Through Head Pose Estimation(IEEE, 2022-12-09) Abeysinghe, A; Arachchige, I. D; Samarasinghe, P; Dhanawansa, V; Velayuthan, MAn automated approach for object tracking and gaze estimation via head pose estimation is crucial, to facilitate a range of applications in the domain of -human-computer interfacing, this includes the analysis of head movement with respect to a stimulus in assessing one’s level of attention. While varied approaches for gaze estimation and object tracking exist, their suitability within such applications have not been justified. In order to address this gap, this paper conducts a quantitative comparison of existing models for gaze estimation including Mediapipe and standalone models of Openface and custom head pose estimation with MTCNN face detection; and object detection including models from CSRT object tracker, YOLO object detector, and a custom object detector. The accuracy of the aforementioned models were compared against the annotations of the EYEDIAP dataset, to evaluate their accuracy both relative and non-relative to each other. The analysis revealed that the custom object detector and the Openface models are relatively more accurate than the others when comparing the number of annotations, absolute mean error, and the relationship between x displacement-yaw, and y displacement-pitch, and thereby can be used in combination for gaze tracking tasks.Publication Open Access Review on vibration quality improvement of a passenger seat(researchgate.net, 2019-03) Perera, M; Rikaz, M; Abeysinghe, ASeats are one of the most significant components of vehicles. Customer’s expectations for the comfort in vehicle seats rise continuously. Designing of automobile seats has always been a challenge for engineers as design parameters for automobile seats are complex. When it comes to the design of automobile seats, three design objectives, namely comfort, safety and health need to be fulfilled simultaneously. Vibration analysis plays a major role in engineering including the area of design for automobile comfort. Human structure, as a mechanical system, is immensely complex and the mechanical properties of human body readily undergo change. In addition, the vibration can initiate the development of pressure ulcer and other long-term diseases. Comfort measurement is challenging because of such factors as user subjectivity, seat geometry, occupant anthropometry and amount of time spent sitting. The purpose of this study is to identify the most significant parameters that make vibration in the vehicle seat which reduce passenger comfort and to identify the design parameters that can impact on appropriate seat design. Suspension systems, seat cushion and sitting postures are some of the vital parameters that have huge impacts on comfort analysis. This review could help in design of seat cushions with appropriate material properties and in analysing the comfort levels of human body to reduce the vibration transmissibility at the critical frequency bandsPublication Open Access Smart Chat: A Mobile Chat Application Based on Machine Learning(SLIIT City UNI, 2025-07-08) Yathuraj, G; Abeysinghe, AIn an increasingly digital world, communication is primarily conducted through messaging apps, but these platforms cannot often convey emotional nuance. This limitation can lead to misunderstandings, emotional disconnects, and deteriorating relationships. SmartChat addresses this gap by integrating machine learning-based emotion recognition into a mobile chat app, allowing users to send and receive voice messages enriched with emotional context. Built using React Native and compatible with both Android and iOS, SmartChat analyzes voice cues such as tone, pitch, and cadence to detect and display emotions to the user. This innovation improves the clarity and empathy of conversations, making digital communications more humancentered. Beyond general messaging, SmartChat has the potential to be used in critical contexts such as education, mental health support, and emotional literacy. By making emotionally aware communication accessible across languages and cultures, SmartChat contributes to fostering healthy interpersonal relationships and supports the broader goal of social sustainability through technology.
