Publication Embargo Adaptivo: A Personalized Adaptive E-Learning System based on Learning Styles and Prior Knowledge(IEEE, 2022-12-09) Rishard, M.A.M; Jayasekara, S.L; Ekanayake, E.M.P.U; Wickramathilake, K.M.J.S; Reyal, S; Manathunga, K; Wickramarathne, JThe rapid advancement of technology and the internet has resulted in an increase in the number of learners seeking e-learning. Though E-Learning is widely used most e-learning systems provide the same set of learning resources and learning paths to each student, regardless of their personal preferences. In recent years there has been increasing attention towards the characteristics of learners such as the learning styles and the knowledge level of the learner. This research paper proposes a personalized adaptive E-learning system called “Adaptivo” that provides a personalized learning experience to the learners based on their learning style and knowledge level. To make the learning process more efficient and engaging, Adaptivo takes into account the specific differences between learners in terms of time, online interactions and learning duration. It then builds a personalized learning path depending on each learner's learning style and knowledge level. The main aim of this study is to investigate the impact of the proposed adaptive learning approach on learners. The results show that the students appreciate the approach, are highly satisfied, and performed better when content is personalized according to their learning style and prior knowledge.Publication Embargo COVID 19 Navigator Taxi Application for Urban Mobility during Pandemic Period(IEEE, 2022-02-23) Wickramarathne, J; Perera, D; Kanchana, B. C; Peiris, RThis research paper focuses on increasing the awareness between taxi users and can help to protect themselves in COVID-19 and take precautions. Since 2019 the global pandemic of Covid-19 is spreading at an astonishing rate and causes a negative impact for economic, social, and cultural factors. Government agencies are warning people to reduce the transportation and to maintain social distance. To stop the spread of COVID-19 required to identify persons who are susceptible to infection and need to trace the COVID-19 positive first contacts. Most people are reduced to using public transportations and taxi services due to unidentifiable health conditions in earlier users. The proposed approach can be used to track the taxi drivers and their passengers previous COVID-19 status as well as navigate the safest route by showing the COVID-19 contamination areas. By using this approach users can be aware of earlier users of the taxi service and COVID-19 status of the taxi driver or passenger before taking the trip as well as if they get touch with any COVID-19 patients, can take immediate precautions. This application helps to increase the usage of taxis by making users trust and confidence against COVID-19 infection. By testing with real users our system was able to trace down 45 passengers and 16 drivers within 3 months.Publication Embargo COVID-19 Infection Risk Assessment for Shoppers in Retail Stores(IEEE, 2022-12-26) Rathnayake, B. R. M. S. R. B.; Senadheera, R.I.A.; Ranasinghe, R.A.K.H.; Sameer, U.M.; Wickramarathne, JOver the last few years, a large number of smartphone apps have been developed to “flatten the curve” of the rising number of COVID-19 infections. Knowledge of potential symptoms and their distribution enables the early identification of infected individuals. We developed a mobile app-based crowdsourcing methodology to assess the COVID-19 infection risk through shopping habits at indoor retail stores. The app’s goal is to instil trust in customers to visit stores, which will assist small and medium businesses to survive their operations in the near term. According to the literature, there are several implementations for COVID-19 infection risk estimations for such scenarios. A mobile app prototype was developed, and the risk was calculated using the COVID-19 Aerosol Transmission Estimator model established by the University of Colorado Boulder. The developed prototype mobile app was tested with end users to gather their feedback through a questionnaire. In comparison to the complex implementation associated with AI-based alternatives, this solution could be delivered at a lower cost with adequate accuracy of COVID-19 infection risk assessments.Publication Embargo Language skills with mouse clicks(IEEE, 2009-04-03) Wickramarathne, J; Wimalaratne, G; Goonetilleke, V; Kapurubandara, MInformation, processed from Knowledge, occupies center stage in this era and literacy in English is vital to deal with this information towards challenges of this digital age. A sound knowledge of English proves essential for success or prosperity not only to the dasiatechno-richpsila but also to nations struggling to meet demands of globalised economies requiring accessing and filtering such information. Information Communication Technologies (ICT) has surfaced as a benefactor towards acquisition of language skills in English to tackle challenges in education. Using ICT, it is found that adaptive and blended learning in English could contribute much towards proficiency in English, illuminating the lead to the information highway towards advancement in the knowledge economy. Where adaptive learning allows for a continuation of learning from a position, blended learning combines traditional classroom teaching with learning online or through a computer screen. Taken together, adaptive, blended learning encourages progress from a stagnant position through new technologies developed for a self-access approach. Blended learning, combining online learning and traditional approaches helps with self-learning processes. Overall, blended learning allows for mass customization with Web 2.0 and social networking, currently in vogue. Learning materials or dasialearning objectspsila used for social networking with Web 2.0, lend much support to online learning in English towards self or peer learning, working collaboratively in small groups or participating in interactive classroom sessions. This paper highlights attempts towards improving language proficiency in English of tertiary level students on the threshold of graduate courses, using a blended, adaptive learning process with Web 2.0.Publication Embargo An Online Dashboard Platform for Weather Data of Major Sri Lankan Cities, and Global Climate Trends(IEEE, 2022-12-08) Pemasinghe, S; Dayarathna, D; Panditharathna, P M R A; Saparamadu, S; Wickramarathne, JHaving easy access to vital weather information and latest climate trends can be of utmost use for a myriad of stakeholders specially for sectors such as fishing community and the agricultural sector. In this paper we have mainly focused on major Sri Lankan cities and providing a one-stop station for easily accessing useful weather information for all the major Sri Lankan cities scattered over 25 administrative districts via a series of dedicated dashboards for each of the cities. The parameters that are displayed in the dashboards have been decided via surveys covering major stakeholders. L; Bellanthudawa, H. P; Hevavitharana, N. D; Ariyasinghe, K. M; Wickramarathne, J; Perera, JAutomation is one of the best ways to make easier everyone's day-to-day life. When considering the industry, if someone could be able to automate the mechanism of solving computer software issues, that will be helpful to every company. Because most companies are facing difficulties when it comes to giving IT support. Some companies are suffering from a lack of IT supporters because they have to solve the same problem on different computers at the same time. This most likely reduces the efficiency of the company and affects its performance as well. Without the proper knowledge of technology, employees tend to get a lot of technical issues while working with the technology. Here comes the opportunity to automate the IT-related problem-solving mechanism. That will save a lot of time and increase the company's efficiency as well. While carrying out the background research we thought, by automating the IT-related problem it will reduce the allocation of human power and that will directly affect company efficiency. The research team came up with the idea of creating a software product that can export an executable file by capturing selected tasks of the user's screen and its' relevant processes. Task and process capturing toolkit is a software product called the “ClickMe toolkit”. It can capture relevant processes that are happening in any computer which runs on Windows 10 platform, then make a script called “ClickMe script”, and convert it into an executable file. It can be run on any Windows 10 Platform.Publication Embargo VirtualPT: Virtual Reality based Home Care Physiotherapy Rehabilitation for Elderly(IEEE, 2020-12-10) Heiyanthuduwa, T. A; Amarapala, K.
