Publication Open Access Is the best option still in low adoption? An investigation on factors affecting the adoption of online school education in rural areas in Sri Lanka(Springer, 2023-01-22) Weerasena, A; Jayathilaka, RThis research investigates rural area students’ online adoption during the fourth wave of the coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. The main objective of this study was to identify the factors affecting the adoption of online education in rural areas in Sri Lanka. This case study was carried out based on data gathered from the online survey during the pandemic covering 16 districts in Sri Lanka. Using the ordered probit regression model through the stepwise technique, the study investigates the factors affecting the adoption of online education in rural areas in Sri Lanka. According to the results generated, attitude, perceived use, awareness, and new technology adoption have a positive impact on student adoption of online education in Sri Lanka. Online education so far is one of the effective and feasible solutions for providing education in a pandemic situation in any country. These findings are helpful for responsible educational institutions to address and contribute to key issues such as low perceived use, poor attitude, low awareness, and poor technology adoption. The study will also assist policymakers in preparing a roadmap, at the policy level with the perceived benefits of online education during similar future crises in Sri Lanka.Publication Embargo E-Learning Education System For Children With Down Syndrome(Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, 2022-09-16) Sampath, A.S.T; Vidanapathirana, M.W.; Gunawardana, T.B.A; Sandeepani, P.W.H.; Chandrasiri, L.H.S.S; Attanayaka, BThe World Health Organization assesses that Down Syndrome (DS) affects about 1 in 1000 births worldwide. Children with DS cannot learn, as usual, instigating numerous inadequacies that lead to formative issues such as trouble encoding information and low intelligence to interpret data for decision-making. As a superior technique for these kids' intercom-municating and logical intellect, free-hand sketch drawing, Voice training, and word prediction activities can be success-fully utilized. As the best way to express the mindset of such chil-dren, introducing an E-Learning system makes a friendlier ac-tivity than learning about the past. Because of the improvement of Artificial intelligence and its encouragement, E-Learning-re-lated exploration and applications are moving at an enormous advancement rate. The main objective of this project is to de-velop a reliable and efficient approach to predicting the devel-opment of DS children. Classifying and identifying those hand-written images and voice samples and those samples are given by children with DS compared to the teacher through the construction of a model structure. This research project specially considered local down syndrome children's hand-drawn images, voice samples, letters, numbers, and words as the input. As a result, it gives accuracy and similarity with the teacher's sam-ples and relates parts in the down syndrome children's samples. The system uses artificial intelligence technologies. Through that, the knowledge capacity of the DS children and their con-veyed articulation of that knowledge can be assessed for additional correlations and investigation.Publication Embargo EduHelp – An Online Tutoring Application(2021 3rd International Conference on Advancements in Computing (ICAC), SLIIT, 2021-12-09) Fernandopulle, S.R.; Warnasooriya, W.M.C.D.B.; Jayasinghe, J.M.H.N.; Theeraj, S.M.D.; Samarakoon, U.; Kumari, S.E-learning via electronic mail, the Internet, the Worldwide Web (WWW), and multimedia has emerged as a result of the convergence of digital technologies and growing interest in the computerized delivery of higher education. The rapid emergence of Covid-19, a lethal disease caused by the Corona Virus, shocked the entire world. It was labeled a pandemic by the World Health Organization. This has posed a challenge to the global education system, forcing instructors to switch to an online form of instruction overnight. Many academic institutions that had previously been hesitant to adapt their traditional pedagogical method now have no choice but to fully embrace online teaching-learning. Because the platform is new to students and teachers, it appears that they are having some difficulties conducting their classes. Hence in this paper, we proposed an E-learning Application called EduHelp to design and build a tutoring platform that includes payment validation for each student, lesson summaries with a video summary note, and more. Upload relevant files and papers by automatically identifying and directing them, as well as creating automated questions and monitoring student attention.
