This paper attempts to develop a conceptual model to test the effect of gender on career progression. In the Sri Lankan context, there is a perception that there is difference between female oriented jobs and male oriented jobs. When economic statistics and company related details are considered, it can be surmised that there is an impact of gender on career progression. This research paper proposes definitions for variables related to career progression and career advancement in organizations. Based on these definitions and on an extensive literature survey, the current researchers will develop a conceptual framework to test the effect of gender on career progression.en_US
