Publication Open Access Teamwork and Knowledge: The Keys to Thriving in Sri Lanka’s Apparel Industry(ICSDB 2024 and SLIIT Business School, 2024-12-10) Navodya, C.; Uttara, B.; Hettiarachchi, N.; Madhushika, H.; Pathirana, G.; Ehalapitiya, S.This study explores the dynamics of knowledge sharing in team-based work environments within Sri Lanka's apparel industry. Conducted through in-depth interviews with 20 machine operators across six apparel companies, the research investigates the influence of factors such as organizational support, motivation, leadership, technology, and trust on knowledgesharing practices. The findings underscore the essential roles of organizational support and trust in fostering collaborative knowledge sharing, while language barriers were deemed nonsignificant. This study contributes unique insights into the specific conditions shaping knowledge sharing in Sri Lanka’s apparel sector, with practical implications for boosting productivity, innovation, and teamwork within the industry.Publication Open Access ‘Rhetoric’ and ‘Reality’ of Artificial Intelligence in Apparel Sector in Sri Lanka: Comparative Case Study(ICSDB 2024 and SLIIT Business School, 2024-12-10) Sandatharaka, S.; Neranjani, K.; Gayashan, N.; Himahansika, C.; Liyanage, T.; Jayasuriya, N.; Ehalapitiya, S.Artificial Intelligence (AI) has emerged as a transformational force in today's rapidly changing business environment. The apparel sector in Sri Lanka increasingly embracing AI technologies for the forthcoming adoption of AI technologies within the industry. Referring to evidence from companies that have evolved in Sri Lanka's apparel sector, this study examines the gap between AI’s rhetorical promises and its practical (reality) application. It focuses on workplace perceptions of AI, bridging the gap between theoretical AI concepts and their implementation, the dynamics of integrating AI into organizational processes, future directions, and the reasons behind the adoption of AI technologies by case study organizations. Drawing from qualitative data, the study delves into the perceptions of AI among industry professionals, the integration of AI into organizational processes, and the strategic motivations behind adopting AI technologies. The findings highlight a significant disparity between the high expectations promoted by AI rhetoric and the reality and effectiveness of AI in practice. While AI is often heralded as a tool to enhance efficiency and reduce manual Labor, the reality within the case study organizations reveals a slower, more complex adoption process. This research paper further describes the rhetoric and reality insights of AI in case study organizations while extending the rhetoric institutionalism theory, how organizations develop specific rhetorical strategies when defining the organizational goals and how organizations strategically use symbols like (words and signs) to empower the ability of practicality in the organizationsPublication Open Access The Impact of Occupational Stress on OperationalLevel Employees’ Work-Life Balance in ABC Apparel Company, Sri Lanka(SLIIT Business School, 2021-06) Wellangiriya, D.G.; Abeysekera, N.Apparel industry in Sri Lanka can be identified as one of the main industries in the country, and it largely contributes to the economy of the country. The sector employs about 15% of the country's workforce, and the country is recorded as the highest apparel exports per capita nation in the Asian region. ABC Apparel Company is the one of the leading apparel manufacturing and exporting organizations operating globally with a workforce of more than 40,000. It is found that the operational level employees of the organization tend to have a high turnover, and the current status of the key performance indicators of HR is not at a very satisfactory level. The main reason behind the turnover is mostly the inability of the employees to balance their work and life with the excessive workload and working hours and work-related stress, which lead to frequent absenteeism. Thus, this research study was planned to investigate the impact of occupational stress on operational level employees’ work-life balance in ABC Apparel Company in Sri Lanka. The findings of the research analysis indicate that the sample consists of a higher percentage of females, and many are single in the age group of 20 to 30 years with the highest educational level of G.C.E. Advanced Level and with the working experience in between 1 to 3 years. At the same time, the reliability of all the variables is in an accepted level, and the correlation of the variables is also significant. Also, the regression analysis provides the results that there are direct relationships in between the variables of job security and the work life balance and the role conflict and the work life balance, and further there are positive relationship between the work load, role ambiguity and work after hours with the work balance.
