Publication Embargo Evaluating the Success of Digital Learning in Sri Lankan Tertiary Education(IEEE, 2022-12-09) Weerapperuma, J; Nawinna, D; Gamage, NThis paper takes a social capital perspective to explain the underlying mechanisms that drive the success of digital learning in tertiary education in an emerging economy. It is crucial to explore ways in which the success of tertiary education can be maximized since these students will immediately contribute to the economy. Although digital-learning initiatives have advanced in developed countries, it is still in its early phases in many developing countries, including Sri Lanka. This study focuses on structural, relational, and cognitive dimensions of social capital and provides a new theoretical framework to examine its relationship to digital educational success. The study uses a quantitative approach where the data is collected from University students in Sri Lanka using a survey deployed online. The model is validated using the structural equation modeling technique. The findings of this study indicated that the three dimensions of social capital positively influence the success of digital education at the tertiary level. Further, this paper contributes to the existing literature on Social Capital Theory and provides valuable insights and recommendations for policymakers in the educational sector on improving digital learning achievements.Publication Open Access Evaluating the Effectiveness of Speed Humps Related to Speed Profile and Noise Profile(SLIIT Faculty of Engineering, 2023-03-02) Gamlath, K.G.D; Amarasingha, N; Wickramasinghe, VSpeed humps are an effective traffic calming measure to improve the safety of road users. On the other hand, speed humps have certain drawbacks, such as increasing emergency response time, causing damage to cars, and high noise levels due to excessive traffic. These impacts further vary with different hump profiles. Thus, the primary objective of this research is to investigate how the geometric profile of speed humps affects vehicle speed and noise level. The secondary objective is to find the Level of Service in the presence and absence of a speed hump by using VISSIM microsimulation. In this study, Lake Drive Road, Nawala, was selected with four different speed hump profiles. The Sound Meter smartphone application was used for noise monitoring. A drone camera footage was utilized to capture vehicle flows while speed trajectories of each vehicle were developed using tracking software. The developed speed profiles were used for the simulation purpose. Then, a Multiple Linear Regression (MLR) model was developed and validated to predict the hump height for the desired speed reduction and desired noise level for each selected four-vehicle category. Further, the average noise levels were found to be higher than the Central Environmental Authority's permissible noise level, and it increases with the height of the hump. It was also observed that as the height of the hump increases, vehicle speed decreases. The largest speed reduction, 42.13 %, was observed in passenger cars, while the lowest speed reduction, 23.5 %, was observed in motorcycles. Therefore, speed analysis findings reveal that passenger cars have a significant speed reduction when compared to other categories. However, the average speed reduction for all vehicles was identified as 33.85 %, and VISSIM simulations revealed that the average Level of Service (LOS) drops to LOS C from LOS A due to the presence of the speed hump.Publication Embargo Model For Evaluating the Reliability of Cyber Component in Power Distribution Systems(IEEE, 2019-10-13) Chakraborty, S; Manoharan, A. K; Hettiarachchige-Don, A; Aravinthan, V; Kapourchali, M. HThe introduction of smart sensors and intelligent electronic devices allow cyber infrastructure to penetrate different levels of power system. Thus, the effective operation of a cyber-physical power system will be affected by cyber network reliability. The focus of this paper is to analyze the reliability of a cyber-physical power system using the concept of three-layered system approach- Power, Communication and Decision. In this work a new method to compute the cyber reliability of the system is proposed by modelling the interdependency between the communication and decision layer. A case study is done using the radial distribution network in the Roy Billinton Test System to show the possible scenarios that should be considered in the reliability evaluation.Publication Embargo Evaluating Teaching Content and Assessments based on Learning Outcomes(IEEE, 2020-12-10) Pallegama, P. M. O. N; Kumari, K. A. M. R; Dissanayaka, D. M. D. P. M; Ravihansi, A. V. Y; Karunasenna, A; Samarakoon, UA modularized syllabus content assigned to different units of a subject proves very useful to both teachings as well as the student community. In each module, learning outcomes are defined. In each learning outcome, lesson learning outcomes are defined. When the Teaching Content (Lecture content), Learning activities (Labs sheets and Tutorials), Final Question Papers are being made the subject learning outcome should be considered and it should be made within the subject learning outcomes. Then the teaching and learning process will be done properly. Nowadays Revised Bloom's Taxonomy standard is used to structure the Teaching Content, Learning Activities, and Final Question paper of a course in the best way. Currently, there is no proper solution to corporate above areas according to the Revised Bloom's Taxonomy. This paper discusses an automated system that provides the features to verify the module and lesson learning outcomes and their levels according to Revised Bloom's taxonomy and to verify that the teaching content and learning activities are within the learning outcomes. Beyond that, this system uses various technologies and algorithms to improve the accuracy and efficiency of this research. This automated system is able to achieve to the final outcome with the best accuracy and efficiency than the manual process.
