It is highly advantageous to discern the maturity level and the time range post-harvesting of tomatoes in the market through visual analysis of their images. This research endeavors to forecast tomato quality by accurately determining the maturity level and the duration post-harvest, specifically tailored to Sri Lankan market conditions, with a particular focus on Padma tomatoes. It identifies maturity stages (Green, Breakers, Turning, Pink, Light Red, Red) and post-harvest dates using image processing techniques. Greenhouse-grown Padma tomatoes mimic market conditions for image capture, and Convolutional Neural Networks facilitate this analysis. Model 1, using ReLU and sigmoid activation functions, accurately classifies tomatoes with 99 % training and validation accuracy. Model 2, with seven classes, achieves 99 % training and 98 % validation accuracy using ReLU and softmax activation functions. Integration of the IPGRI/IITA 1998 classification method enhances tomato categorization. Efficient tomato image screening optimizes resource use. This study successfully determines Padma tomato post-harvest dates based on maturity stages, a significant contribution to tomato quality assessment under market conditions.Publication Embargo Advancing Canine Health and Care: A Multifaceted Approach using Machine Learning(IEEE, 2023-06-26) Wimukthi, Y; Kottegoda, H; Andaraweera, D; Palihena, P; Fernando, H; Kasthurirathnae, DThis research paper proposes a comprehensive approach to enhance the well-being of dogs through a range of innovative technologies. Children with DS cannot learn, as usual, instigating numerous inadequacies that lead to formative issues such as trouble encoding information and low intelligence to interpret data for decision-making. As a superior technique for these kids' intercom-municating and logical intellect, free-hand sketch drawing, Voice training, and word prediction activities can be success-fully utilized. As the best way to express the mindset of such chil-dren, introducing an E-Learning system makes a friendlier ac-tivity than learning about the past. Because of the improvement of Artificial intelligence and its encouragement, E-Learning-re-lated exploration and applications are moving at an enormous advancement rate. The main objective of this project is to de-velop a reliable and efficient approach to predicting the devel-opment of DS children. Classifying and identifying those hand-written images and voice samples and those samples are given by children with DS compared to the teacher through the construction of a model structure. This research project specially considered local down syndrome children's hand-drawn images, voice samples, letters, numbers, and words as the input. As a result, it gives accuracy and similarity with the teacher's sam-ples and relates parts in the down syndrome children's samples. The system uses artificial intelligence technologies. Through that, the knowledge capacity of the DS children and their con-veyed articulation of that knowledge can be assessed for additional correlations and investigation.Publication Embargo CXR Scan:X-Ray Image Scanning Application for Lung Cancer and Tuberculosis(Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, 2022-10-15) Jayasooriya, A.M.U.J.; Wickramasekara, T.M.A.M; Jayasinghe, I.C.; Gunaratne, U.A.; Weerasinghe, L; Dassanayake, G. TThe initial criterion for identifying lung disorders is chest radiographs. The three major lung illnesses that pose the greatest threat to public health are tuberculosis, pneumonia, and lung cancer. Chest X-ray diagnosis of pulmonary illnesses is a challenging undertaking that requires high experience. In rural places, it can be difficult to locate skilled radiologists. Due to the high frequency of TB and lung cancer radiological similarities, many individuals with lung cancer are initially misdiagnosed as having TB and treated incorrectly. According to a recent WHO survey, millions of people die each year as a result of delayed or incorrect diagnoses of lung diseases. This death rate can be reduced, by early detection of certain disorders. This paper proposes a system with 4 main components; Image processing of chest X-rays to identify the disease using Convolutional Neural networks; Predicting the probability of having LC or TB using multivariate data classification techniques; Recommending medicine and related information to support the decision-making process using gaussian naïve bayes, logistic regression model and decision tree classification methods; Visualizing the X-ray image using Augmented Reality.Publication Embargo EasyChat: A Chat Application for Deaf/Dumb People to Communicate with the General Community(Springer, Cham, 2022-07-07) Sriyaratna, D; Samararathne, W. A. H. K.; Gurusinghe, P. M.; Gunathilake, M. D. S. S.; Wijenayake, W. W. G. P. A.Sign Language is closely associated with the deaf and dumb community to communicate with each other. However, not everyone understands sign language or verbal languages, so these communities need proper ways to communicate online. Therefore, this paper presents EasyChat, a sign language chat application that can translate three main sign languages into Simple English text as well as Simple English text into sign language, which would benefit for deaf/dumb community to express their ideas with the general community by simply capturing their British Sign Language (BSL) or Makaton gestures/symbols or lip movements. These steps are handled by four components. The first component, Convert BSL into Simple English, and the second component, handles Lip Reading conversion. The Makaton gesture and symbol conversion component produces a simple English text-formatted output for identified Makaton hand signs. Finally, the Text/voice to Sign Converter works on converting entered English text back into the sign language-based images. By using these components, EasyChat can detect relevant gestures and lip movement inputs with superior accuracy and translate. This can lead to more effective and efficient online communication between the community of deaf/dumb individuals and the general public.Publication Open Access User Awareness System to Diagnose Dermatological Diseases(Foundation of Computer Science, 2020-12-18) Chandrasiri, S; Weerasooriya, T; Pathivarathan, V; Thavabalasingham, N; Philipreman, K; Gunasekaran, SNowadays, humans' health is deteriorating by dermatological diseases, and the spreading rate is high. Most people are not aware of skin diseases. As they do not realize these diseases' seriousness, they try to treat with some remedies by themselves, even without knowing what the actual disease is. Nevertheless, it is not a suitable way to cure the disease, leading to future complications. So still the dermatological diseases remain as one of the main categories of common health issues. A few people prefer to use computerized systems to evaluate the disease conditions these days. Moreover, it is essential to know about the diseases to manage that condition and prevent escalation. Therefore, the proposed system is implemented to give users some knowledge about dermatological diseases as much as possible. The users can get awareness and predict skin diseases and complications from the data mining technique. The user can identify the stage of the dermatological disease by applying the classification algorithm. Furthermore, this system will also scrap web pages related to that disease from known or system verified websites. The content analysis is based on the machine learning process, especially using Neural Language Processing. Hence, the system will undeniably be useful to the users to summarize skin diseases and get concerns from a dermatologistPublication Embargo PatientCare: Patient Assistive Tool with Automatic Hand-written Prescription Reader(2020 2nd International Conference on Advancements in Computing (ICAC), SLIIT, 2020-12-10) Kulathunga, D.; Muthukumarana, C.; Pasan, U.; Hemachandra, C.; Tissera, M.; De Silva, H.Most people in the world prefer to be conscious of the medications prescribed by physicians. Especially, the importance of handwritten prescriptions is prodigious in Sri Lanka because they are widely used in the healthcare sector. However, due to the illegible handwriting and the medical abbreviations of the physicians, patients are unable to find the prescribed medication information. This research is an attempt to assist the patients in identifying the prescribed medicine information and minimizes misreading errors of medical prescriptions. When a patient uploads the image of a prescription, the system converts it into unstructured text data by using OCR and segmentation, then NER is used to categorize medical information from given text. According to the other research, some solutions exist in other domains for the above mechanisms. But they gave less accuracy when tried to apply for this research due to the domain specialty. Therefore, as a solution to overcome the above discrepancy this approach allows users to scan handwritten medical prescriptions and blood reports and obtain analyzed reports in medical history. Results have shown that this approach will give 64%-70% accuracy level in doctor's handwriting recognition and 95%- 98% accuracy in medical information categorization of the prescription format.Publication Embargo Intelligent Disease Detection System for Greenhouse with a Robotic Monitoring System(2020 2nd International Conference on Advancements in Computing (ICAC), SLIIT, 2020-12-10) Fernando, S.; Nethmi, R.; Silva, A.; Perera, A.; De Silva, R.; Abeygunawardhana, P.K.W.Greenhouse farming plays a significant role in the agricultural industry because of its controlled climatic features. Recent examinations have stated that the mean creation of the yields under greenhouses is lessening due to disease events in the plants. These foods have become an imposing undertaking because these plants are being assaulted by different bacterial diseases, micro-organisms, and pests. The chemicals are applied to the plants intermittently without thinking about the necessity of each plant. Several problems have occurred in the greenhouse environment due to these causes. Therefore, there is a huge necessity for a system to detect diseases at an early stage. This research focused on designing a system to detect disease, which causes yellowish in greenhouse plants. Plant yellowing can be considered a significant problem of plants that grow under greenhouse-controlled environments. Through this research is focused on the most important and one of the most attentiongrabbing crop tomato. There are specific diseases that cause yellowish the tomato plant, and they have been identified. The techniques utilized for early recognition of infection are image processing, machine learning, and deep learning.Publication Embargo EasyTalk: A Translator for Sri Lankan Sign Language using Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence(2020 2nd International Conference on Advancements in Computing (ICAC), SLIIT, 2020-12-10) Kumar, D.M.; Bavanraj, K.; Thavananthan, S.; Bastiansz, G.M.A.S.; Harshanath, S.M.B.; Alosious, J.Sign language is used by the hearing-impaired and inarticulate community to communicate with each other. But not all Sri Lankans are aware of the sign language or verbal languages and a translation is required. The Sri Lankan Sign Language is tightly bound to the hearing-impaired and inarticulate. The paper presents EasyTalk, a sign language translator which can translate Sri Lankan Sign Language into text and audio formats as well as translate verbal language into Sri Lankan Sign Language which would benefit them to express their ideas. This is handled in four separate components. The first component, Hand Gesture Detector captures hand signs using pre-trained models. Image Classifier component classifies and translates the detected hand signs. The Text and Voice Generator component produces a text or an audio formatted output for identified hand signs. Finally, Text to Sign Converter works on converting an entered English text back into the sign language based animated images. By using these techniques, EasyTalk can detect, translate and produce relevant outputs with superior accuracy. This can result in effective and efficient communication between the community with differently-abled people and the community with normal people.
