Publication Open Access Evaluating the Role of Gamification on AI Technology tools for addressing Post-Traumatic Stress Disorders(Faculty of Engineering, 2025-09-09) Withanage, R.PThe VERA AI platform offers an innovative, AI-driven neuro-engineering approach to delivering scalable, trauma-informed interventions for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) among ex- combatants and internally displaced persons (IDPs) in post-conflict Sri Lanka. By combining CBT, DBT, mindfulness, and gamification within a secure, GDPR-compliant ecosystem, it aligns with Disarmament, Demobilisation, and Reintegration (DDR) objectives, supporting both individual recovery and community reintegration.Integrating neuro-sensing technologies such as EEG and HRV with machine-learning models enables personalised, real-time therapy, while policy applications include strengthening DDR programme evaluation and informing national mental health strategies. Ethical deployment emphasising privacy, informed consent, and cultural sensitivity remains central. VERA AI demonstrates how gamified, AI-enabled neuro-engineering can provide effective, cost- efficient, and user-centred psychosocial rehabilitation, empowering individuals in Sri Lanka and other post-conflict settings to rebuild their lives and contribute to sustainable peace.Publication Open Access Evaluating the Effectiveness of Virtual Reality-Based Fire Safety Training Using Performance Metrics and User Behavior Analysis(Sri Lanka Institute of Information Technology, 2026-05-21) Nisme, N; Wijayasiri, U; Abeygunawardhana, PFire safety training is essential for improving emergency response; however, conventional methods often lack interactivity and fail to provide measurable performance data. Existing Virtual Reality (VR)-based training systems enhance immersion but primarily rely on subjective evaluation, limiting quantitative assessment of effectiveness. To address this limitation, a VR-based fire safety training system integrated with performance metrics and user behavior analysis was developed and evaluated. An experimental study involving 47 participants was conducted using a pre-test and post-test design. Learning outcomes, behavioral data, and user feedback were analyzed. Results indicate a significant improvement, with median scores increasing from 4 to 8 and 70.21% of participants showing improvement. The Wilcoxon signed-rank test confirmed statistical significance (p = 0.00016) with a moderate to large effect size (r = 0.525). Behavioral metrics further demonstrated measurable user performance, supporting the effectiveness of VR-based fire safety training.Publication Embargo Scylax-preference based personalized Tour Planner with Virtual Reality(IEEE, 2016-12-16) De Silva, D. I; Kaluthanthri, I. U; Sudaraka, K. S; Karunarathna, U. P. D; Jayalath, J. M. T. IOver the decades, travelling has experienced continuous growth and deepening diversification to become one of the fastest growing economic sectors in the world. Among the existing travelling applications, only a handful facilitate the ability to plan a tour which is entirely based on user preferences, while offering an in-depth look at the desired destination. Therefore, this research focuses on integrating semantic technologies, collaborative filtering and Virtual Reality into the domain of travelling and provide preferred user oriented tour plans with superlative user satisfaction. The key factor that needs to be understood is that the preferences or the behavior of one user may be entirely different from another. “Scylax” has introduced the concept of preferences and behavior based personalized tour planning and the way of exploring desired routes, major stops or attractions along the way via virtual reality 360 view experience. In addition, business organizations can use the web-based dashboard to maintain their services, offers and obtain business analytic based improvements.
