Development of a Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) During the COVID -19 Pandemic: A Study with special reference to Advanced Technological Institute
    (researchgate.net, 2022-02) Rupasinghe, L; Nowfeek, M. R. M
In this Covid-19 pandemic, Information and communication technology (ICT) plays a significant role and IT solutions such as the Virtual Learning Environments (VLE) have become vital. In pandemic situation, the Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) integrates many tools to provide higher educational institutions with an effective and efficient method to share, manage, store, and enhance their traditional approach of teaching. The implementation of VLE During the COVID -19 Pandemic has become a need at Advanced Technological institute in the learning and teaching environment. Although there is an increased willingness to its widespread implementation among higher educational institutes in this pandemic situation. The primary goal of this study is to develop a Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) for Advanced Technological Institute during the COVID -19 Pandemic, as well as to identify the existing virtual learning environment status of other higher educational institutes and implement innovative tools in Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) at Advanced Technological Institute in the COVID -19 Pandemic. The conduct of this study involved qualitative method, the finding of the research presented that existing system used only for downloading the notes of lectures. As per the finding, virtual system developed using the following features such as conducing online examination, quizzes, discussion forum and as a new components automatic question generation using natural language processing added to enhance the learning and teaching process. Adobe photoshop for image editing purpose, MySQL for creating database, Apache Web Server, WordPress, Natural Language processing (NLP) for prototype question generation and php for virtual environment development as well as Microsoft Visio for diagram drawing were utilized to develop this system development.

SmartCoach: Comprehensive Tutor Recommender and Student Attentiveness Measuring Platform
    (2021 3rd International Conference on Advancements in Computing (ICAC), SLIIT, 2021-12-09) Samarasekara, H. D. K.; Hansaka, H. M. P.; Rajapaksha, S. D. D.; Tharaka, W. A. D. G.; Manathunga, K.; Sriyarathna, D.C.
With the pandemic, coaching or tutoring classes became to halt as the underlying system wasn’t facilitating to adapt to emergency teaching mechanisms due to sparse of relevant technologies and tutor unawareness. SmartCoach is an integrated platform that allows students to find suitable tutors based on recommendations and other parameters like proximity, previous track record etc. using sentiment analysis and natural language processing. For tutors, SmartCoach allows publishing learning materials, automatic quiz creation, tracking attendance and, attentiveness during classes using OpenCV library. Moreover tutors get a dashboard featuring critical aspects about their classes and, personal income. This research is aimed to introduce a comprehensive distance learning platform with novel technological approaches that connect both potential students and tutors to a common platform.

Cbeyond: Mathematical Learning Tool for Primary Level Visual Impaired Students
    (IEEE, 2018-08-08) Chinthaka, W; Abeygunawardhana, P. K. W
Blindness or visual impairment is a common obstacle for the development of a society. They paradigm, feel and sense the world divergently so that, they have to face so many challenges in day today life. One of the most dreadful challenges arises when considering about the learning curriculum of a blind kid, specially a stream like mathematics. Therefore, when they grow up they try to build their careers in areas where the use of mathematics is minimal. This is because learning or practicing mathematics demands rich in visual abilities and the world is still lack of providing them enough facilities and proper technical solutions to make their learning curriculum easier. They are using Braille system to represent numbers and mathematical calculations at present. Before going to the braille system, the kids need to get used to the specific patterns for the numbers and mathematical operators, so that they are using a special wooden number board that has nine star shaped blocks carved on it and an object called tiff. It is an extremely tedious task for a young blind kid to perform number identification, therefore a teacher should always be there for them. A primary level blind kid normally takes up to three years just to identify the pattern of numbers from zero to nine and four basic mathematical operators. Even more time consume for the Mathematical calculations. In this paper, an innovative tool is introduced which will enable blind kids to learn and practice mathematics like sighted students.
