Publication Open Access Development of a MEMS-based Earthquake Dataset using the Raspberry Shake Network in New Zealand(Sri Lanka Institute of Information Technology, 2026-05-21) Samiha, T.Z; Ravishan, DTraditional seismic monitoring is often limited by the high cost of instrumentation and logistical barriers, hindering the expansion of earthquake monitoring networks especially in under-resourced regions. Low-cost MEMS-based sensors offer a scalable alternative, but require specialized datasets to train machine learning models adapted to their unique noise characteristics and sensitivity profiles. To address this, we systematically collected waveforms from approximately 4,000 earthquakes (magnitude 2.7 to the highest recorded) recorded across 89 Raspberry Shake stations in New Zealand from 2020–2025. Events were matched to nearby stations based on epicentral distance criteria (100 km for M 2.7–5.5, 150 km for M>5.5). A staged filtering pipeline using PhaseNet, EQTransformer, and GPD models, cross-validated with theoretical TauP arrivals, was applied to ensure phase pick quality across three confidence tiers. The final curated dataset comprises 918 high-confidence waveforms with validated P and S wave arrivals, alongside approximately 16,035 total waveform records spanning all quality tiers. This dataset addresses the critical scarcity of labeled training data for low-cost seismic instrumentation, enabling the development of phase pickers specifically calibrated for MEMS sensors.Publication Open Access POSTUREEASE: A Web Based Application for Monitoring the Sitting Posture in Computer Based Working Environment(SLIIT City UNI, 2025-07-08) Thennakoon, T.M.C.L; Worthington, A.EIn today’s digital era, prolonged computer usage is commonplace, particularly in professional environments. Typically, autism spectrum disorder is first detected with a screening tool (e.g. modified checklist for autism in toddlers). However, the interpretation of autism spectrum disorder behavioural symptoms varies across cultures: the sensitivity of modified checklist for autism in toddlers is as low as 25 per cent in Sri Lanka. A culturally sensitive screening tool called pictorial autism assessment schedule has overcome this problem. Low- and middle-income countries have a shortage of mental health specialists, which is a key barrier for obtaining an early autism spectrum disorder diagnosis. Early identification of autism spectrum disorder enables intervention before atypical patterns of behaviour and brain function become established. This article proposes a culturally sensitive autism spectrum disorder screening mobile application. The proposed application embeds an intelligent machine learning model and uses a clinically validated symptom checklist to monitor and detect autism spectrum disorder in low- and middle-income countries for the first time. Machine learning models were trained on clinical pictorial autism assessment schedule data and their predictive performance was evaluated, which demonstrated that the random forest was the optimal classifier (area under the receiver operating characteristic (0.98)) for embedding into the mobile screening tool. In addition, feature selection demonstrated that many pictorial autism assessment schedule questions are redundant and can be removed to optimise the screening process.Item Embargo MindBridge: Early Identification of Learning Difficulties in Children as a Supporting Tool for Teachers(Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc., 2025) Mapa, N; Deshapriya, M; Premathilake, M; Samarakoon, S; Thelijjagoda, S; Vidanaralage, A.JLearning difficulties in children significantly impede academic success by affecting information processing, mathematical performance, and the learning of proper reading and writing. This paper proposes a Progressive Web Application (PWA) based on artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) for identifying potential learning barriers. In contrast with standard diagnostic instruments, the proposed system is designed as a prediction tool with the potential for teachers to conduct timely and focused interventions. By automating feature extraction and reducing manual processing, the system overcomes the limitations of existing learning systems and improves early detection accuracy. Preliminary evaluations indicate that the PWA can effectively identify at-risk students and improve intervention methods and overall academic performance. This research contributes to the integration of computational methods and pedagogy, offering a scalable and low-cost solution for helping slow learners overcome their learning challenges.Publication Embargo E-tongue -A smart tool to predict safe consumption of groundwater(IEEE, 2020) Alahakoon, A. Currently, the volatility framework is used to extract artifacts from the memory dump, and the extracted artifacts are then used to investigate and to identify the malicious processes in the memory dump. The investigation process must be conducted manually, since the volatility framework provides only the artifacts that exist in the memory dump. In this paper, we investigate the four predominant domains of registry, DLL, API calls and network connections in memory forensics to implement the system ‘Malfore,’ which helps automate the entire process of memory forensics. We use the cuckoo sandbox to analyze malware samples and to obtain memory dumps and volatility frameworks to extract artifacts from the memory dump. The finalized dataset was evaluated using several machine learning algorithms, including RNN. The highest accuracy achieved was 98%, and it was reached using a recurrent neural network model, fitted to the data extracted from the DLL artifacts, and 92% accuracy was reached using a recurrent neural network model, fitted to data extracted from the network connection artifacts.Publication Embargo VirtualPT: Virtual Reality based Home Care Physiotherapy Rehabilitation for Elderly(2020 2nd International Conference on Advancements in Computing (ICAC), SLIIT, 2020-12-10) Heiyanthuduwa, T.A.; Amarapala, K.W.N.U.; Gunathilaka, K.D.V.B.; Ravindu, K.S.; Wickramarathne, J.; Kasthurirathna, D.This paper describes the development of Personal computer based Virtual Reality home-care Physiotherapy system aimed for rehabilitating full body function in elders. These fluctuations can lead to instability when solar power generation systems are integrated into national energy grids, creating difficulties in maintaining a balanced supply and demand. If solar energy generation can be accurately forecasted before fluctuations occur, potential issues can be identified in advance, allowing for better management of the energy system, including optimizing storage facilities when energy generation is high. Current solar energy forecasting systems face significant challenges due to their high computational complexity, which results in increased power consumption and lower accuracy. To address these issues, this study focuses on the development of an artificial intelligence (AI)-based forecasting model using an Artificial Neural Network (ANN). The goal is to reduce the computational complexity of the model while maintaining high accuracy. To achieve this, various data analysis and complexity reduction techniques, such as variable reduction, pruning, and quantization, were applied. The performance of the optimized AI model was evaluated by comparing the forecasted values to actual solar energy generation data. The results demonstrate that the proposed model successfully reduces computational complexity while maintaining a satisfactory level of accuracy. This optimization makes the model more suitable for real-time forecasting, particularly in resource-constrained environments, and provides a more efficient approach to solar energy management. The findings of this study suggest that AI-based forecasting models can play a critical role in enhancing the integration of solar energy into national grids, ensuring a more reliable and sustainable energy supply. Further research could explore additional optimization techniques and the introduction of generalization techniques to improve transferability of the model and applicability across diverse geographical regions. Additionally, focus on utilizing AI techniques that minimize computational complexity without compromising the accuracy of the model, aiming to maintain high forecasting precision while optimizing the efficiency of the system.Item Embargo Data-Driven Insights for Improved Diabetes Management(Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc., 2025-12-09) Gunawardhana D.H.M.G; Kajeevan J.; De Silva L.K.N; Wimansa P.P.H.S.D; Anjana, J; Dassanayake, G.TEffective diabetes management requires understanding the complex interplay between multiple physiological and behavioral factors affecting glycemic control. This study presents a comprehensive analysis of diabetes management data from six distinct datasets containing continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) data, insulin administration records, carbohydrate intake, physical activity, sleep quality, and stress measurements. We employed time series analysis techniques such as STL decomposition, Dynamic Time Warping, LSTM neural networks, and XGBoost modeling to identify patterns in glucose variability and their relationships with modifiable factors. Our findings revealed significant time-of-day variations in glucose levels, with highest variability in late afternoon and evening (CV = 0.41 vs. 0.34, p < 0.01). Integrated prediction models achieved 83% sensitivity for hypoglycemia and 81% for hyperglycemia detection. The insulin-to-carbohydrate ratio varied by time of day, with morning ratios (1:8) differing from evening (1:12). Physical activity demonstrated intensity-dependent effects, with moderate-intensity exercise reducing glucose levels by 42 mg/dL for approximately 12 hours post-activity. Sleep quality below rating 3 (on a 5-point scale) was associated with a 37% increase in next-day glucose variability. These findings provide evidence-based insights for developing personalized diabetes management strategies that account for chronological variations in insulin sensitivity, meal timing, physical activity scheduling, and lifestyle interventions targeting sleep and stress management.Item Open Access Enhancing Cognitive and Metacognitive Domains of Autistic Children Using Machine Learning(Multidisciplinary Digital Publishing Institute (MDPI), 2025-08-21) Tharaki, D; Rupasinghe, Y; Ruhunage, P; Pehesarani, A; Rathnayake, S.CASD poses special difficulty in both cognitive and metacognitive development, necessitating specialized educational strategies.
