Enhance the Safety Measurements in Railways with the Aid of IoT and Image Processing
    (2021 3rd International Conference on Advancements in Computing (ICAC), SLIIT, 2021-12-09) Vedasingha, K. S.; Perera, K. K. M. T.; Hathurusinghe, K. I.; Akalanka, H. W. I.; Amarasena, N.; Dissanayake, N.R.
Railways provide the most convenient and economically beneficial mode of transportation, and it has been the most popular transportation method. According to the past analyzed data, it reveals a considerable number of accidents which occurred at railways, caused damages to not only precious lives but also to the economy. The goal of this research is to minimize the railway accidents by developing “Railway Process Automation System” while ensuring human safety with use of Internet of Things (IoT) and image processing techniques. The system can detect the current location of the train and close the railway gate automatically. As usual, if the system fails to close the rail gate due to any failure, the proposed system can identify the current location and close the rail gate through decision making system by using past data. The proposed system introduces further two features which named as Railway track crack detection and motion detection which play a significant role in reducing the risk of railway accidents. Moreover, the system is capable of detecting rule violations at a level crossing by using sensors. The proposed system is implemented through a prototype and tested with real-world scenarios to gain the above 90% of accuracy.

Mobile Based Solution for Vehicle Assistance
(2021 3rd International Conference on Advancements in Computing (ICAC), SLIIT, 2021-12-09) Wickrama, M.A.D.; Dharmakeerthi, D.S.C.; Balasooriya, S.A.; Ekanayake, U.M.I.S.; Gamage, M.P.; Amarasena, N.
At present majority of the people in Sri Lanka use private vehicles as their mode of transport. Vehicle breakdown is a main issue faced by the vehicle drivers onroad. But depending on the nature of the underlying reason of breakdown, some minor failures can be fixed by the users themselves if they have the basic knowledge, which the majority lacks. If the vehicles undergo a breakdown in a remote location, getting help or finding the required spare parts become a hindrance. In addition to that, vehicle owners need a platform to get a clear idea and comparisons of vehicle insurance companies and insurance packages. As a solution for the above concerns, authors decided to develop a mobile application to assist drivers with vehicle breakdowns and maintenance along with some extra functions. The suggested system's major functions include providing a personal assistant to aid with vehicle breakdowns, predicting upcoming vehicle maintenance procedures, providing trustworthy spare part pricing, and recommending the best insurance providers to customers. In order to develop the product several technologies and techniques including Natural Language Processing, Neural Networks, and Sentimental Analysis are used. Customers are extremely satisfied with the product's efficacy, according to the results of the survey.

    PharmaGo-An Online Pharmaceutical Ordering Platform
    (IEEE, 2022-01-11) Gamage, R. G; Bandara, N. S; Diyamullage, D. D; Senadeera, K. U; Abeywardena, K. Y; Amarasena, N.
Pharmacy services are a paramount important pillar of health. People must keep social distance due to the COVID-19 pandemic, hence the availability of online services to give medicine is vital. Due to the quarantine measures implemented in and by various countries to prevent the virus’s breaking out and online pharmacies have become an exceptionally popular way to obtain accurate medication. Currently, in Sri Lanka, there are a few mobile applications separately owned by each of the pharmacies to provide online pharmaceutical services for their customers. But all the medicines the customer needs might not be available in a single pharmacy. PharmaGo provides with its cooperation to the customers to get medicines of his necessity at a single pharmacy, as against avoiding him roaming from pharmacy to pharmacy. Similarly, pharmacy owners can read the prescription by using image processing mechanisms and doubtlessly identify the required medicines. In addition, the system analyzes previous sales records and provides predictions regarding the future demand for drugs to the pharmacy owners. PharmaGo includes a highly trained AI-powered medical chatbot to guide the customers throughout the process. PharmaGo provides a reliable platform for both pharmacy users and pharmacists to fulfill the unique needs of pharmacy services.

Science Zone : An Augmented Reality based Mobile Application for Science
(2020 2nd International Conference on Advancements in Computing (ICAC), SLIIT, 2020-12-10) De Silva, W.; Naranpanawa, P.; Hettihewa, U.; Liyanage, P.; Samarakoon, U.; Amarasena, N.
In recent years, technology has rapidly developed, and it has provided many technological advancements for the field of education with an attempt to improve and overcome its limitations. Augmented Reality is among these latest technologies which support to improve learning environment around the world. It can bring education to a new level which can help students in many significant ways. In Sri Lanka, augmented reality is rarely been used for the purpose of educational enhancements. Therefore, it was decided to develop an augmented reality embedded mobile application for the G.C.E Ordinary Level Students in order to make it easy for them to learn Science with more enthusiasm and interest. This research has been used marker-based approach to transmit images or objects in the text book into the real-world scenes in order to create a more productive learning environment for the students. The first version of the application covers four main areas in the Science curriculum, such as; Preparation of Acids, Human Anatomy, Organization of Plants and Biosphere Cycles. Feedback for the application was taken from randomly selected ten science teachers and twenty grade eleven students and accordingly the application was further developed. Their feedback proves that the application would satisfy the common requirements of students, and it would be an immense support in scoring good results for science.

Smart Exam Evaluator for Object-Oriented Programming Modules
(2020 2nd International Conference on Advancements in Computing (ICAC), SLIIT, 2020-12-10) Wickramasinghe, M.L.; Wijethunga, H.P.; Yapa, S.R.; Vishwajith, D.M.D.; Samaratunge Arachchillage, U.S.S.; Amarasena, N.
Worldwide educators considered that, automate the evaluation of programming language-based exams is a more challenging task due to its complexity and the diversity of solutions implemented by students. This research investigates and provides insight into the applicability and development of a java based online exam evaluator as a solution to traditional onerous manual exam assessment methodology. The proposed system allows students to take online exams in Java for an implemented source code in a practical exam, automatically reporting the results to the administrator simultaneously. Accordingly, this research examines existing methods, identifies their limitations, and explores the significance of introducing a smart object-oriented program-based exam evaluator as a solution. This method minimizes all human errors and makes the system more efficient. An automated answer checker checks and marks are given as human-counterpart and generate a report with possible suggestions for improvement of the answer scripts and generate a classification report to predict the student’s final exam marks. This software application uses a Knowledge base, Abstract Syntax tree (AST), ANTLR, Image processing, and Machine Learning (ML) as key technologies. The proposed system gains a higher accuracy of 95% as performed by a separate human-counterpart. These results show a high level of accuracy and automate marking is the major emphasis to save human evaluation effort and maximize productivity.
