Publication Embargo AI Solution to Assist Online Education Productivity via Personalizing Learning Strategies and Analyzing the Student Performance(Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, 2022-10-29) Liyanage, M.L.A.P.; Hirimuthugoda, U.J; Liyanage, N.L.T.N.; Thammita, D.H.M.M.P; Koliya Harshanath Webadu Wedanage, D; Kugathasan, A; Thelijjagoda, SHigher productivity in online education can be attained by consistent student engagement and appropriate use of learning resources and methodologies in the form of audio, video, and text. Lower literacy rates, decreased popularity, and unsatisfactory end-user goals can result from unbalanced or inappropriate use of the aforementioned. Prior studies mainly focused on identifying and separating the elements affecting the quality of online education and pinpointing the students' preferred learning styles outside of in-person and online instruction. This has not been able to clearly show how to enhance and customize the online learning environment in order to benefit the aforementioned criteria. This case study will primarily concentrate on elements that can be personalized and optimized to improve the quality of online education. With the aid of various algorithms like logistic regression,Support Vector Machines (SVM), time series forecasting (ARIMA), deep neural networks, and Recurrent Neural Networks (RNN), which make use of machine learning and deep learning techniques, the ultimate result has been attained. To increase application and accuracy, the newly presented technique will then be presented as a web-based software application. Contrary to what is commonly believed, this applied research proposes a new all-in-one Learning Management System (LMS) for students and tutors that acts as a central hub of all the learning resources.Publication Embargo Dynamic User Interface Personalization Based on Deep Reinforcement Learning(IEEE, 2021-12-09) Silva, K. G. G. H; Abeyasekare, W. A. P. S; Dasanayake, D. M. H. E; Nandisena, T. B; Kasthurirathna, D; Kugathasan, APersonalization is one of the most sought out and popular methods for brand recognition and consumer attraction. The usage of deep reinforcement learning due to its' ability to learn actions the way humans learn from experience, if utilized and evaluated properly it can result in a revolutionary effect on personalization. The methodology proposed in this research utilizes deep reinforcement learning where an artificial agent may be trained by interacting with its environment. Utilizing the experience gathered, the agent is able optimize in the form of rewards. The approach explained, can be utilized across applications which can be personalized. Several scenarios ranging from changing the layout of webpages, to rearranging icons on mobile home screens are discussed. The main objective is to develop an API for the web developers and smartphone manufacturers to utilize so that depending on the application personalization can be achieved by enhancing saliency, minimizing selection time, increasing engagement, or an arrangement of these. The technique can manage a variety of adaptations, such as how graphical elements are shown and how they behave. An experiment was conducted which showcased improved user experience considering the position change of the user interface elements thereby personalizing the layout.Publication Embargo E-Learn Detector: Smart Behaviour Monitoring System to Analyze Student Behaviours During Online Educational Activities(IEEE, 2021-12-09) Bamunuge, H. K. T; Perera, H. M; Kumarage, S; Savindri, P. A. P; Kasthurirathna, D; Kugathasan, AWith the rise of online education more attention is being paid to the deficiencies in online learning platforms. Online Learning environments aim to deliver efficacious instructions, but rarely take providing a conventional classroom experience to the students into consideration. Efficient detection of students' learning situations can provide information to teachers to help them identify students having trouble in real-time. This idea has been exploited several times for Intelligent Tutoring Systems, but not yet in other types of learning environments that are less structured. "E-Learn Detector is a web application solution to these existing issues in online learning which consists of unique features such as verifying the user during logging procedure and throughout an examination, detecting suspicious behaviors and presence of multiple users during online examinations and detecting low engagement levels of students during online lectures. "E-Learn Detector" is developed with the aim to provide guidance to students to improve their academic performance and behavior during classroom activities and to induce the best out of the educational activities.Publication Embargo Effectiveness of Using Radiology Images and Mask R-CNN for Stomatology(IEEE, 2022-12-09) Jayasinghe, H; Pallepitiya, N; Chandrasiri, A; Heenkenda, C; Vidhanaarachchi, S; Kugathasan, A; Rathnayaka, K; Wijekoon, JDental health-related disorders have proliferated worldwide due to the excessive intake of fast food and sugary foods, which was followed by bad oral hygiene practices. The cost of dental examinations may change based on how critical the condition is, regardless of whether they are not regular. For a person, diagnosing an oral health problem, particularly locating the disease’s underlying cause, can be challenging. To properly diagnose and treat such conditions, advanced dental diagnostic techniques may be necessary. By offering convenience and enhancing their oral health knowledge, the system seeks to serve as a prediction tool that regular people can utilize to detect potential tooth illnesses at an early stage. It is encompassed as a mobile application where a Mask R-CNN model is used in the core that accepts a dental radiograph as the input. The trained model will be able to identify diseases related to the bone and teeth. Based on the performance evaluations, the accuracy of the results that are obtained in tooth type, restoration quality, dental caries, and periodontal disease identification falls in the range of 75%-80%.Publication Embargo Home Bridge - Smart Elderly Care System(IEEE, 2021-01-17) Sitparoopan, T; Chellapillai, V; Arulmoli, J; Chandrasiri, S; Kugathasan, AThis paper proposes a recommendation system for the elderly that runs on a consumer smartphone as an interactive mobile application. This study looks at the relationship between depression and the factors contributing to depression in the elderly. Obesity and depression have a bidirectional negative relationship. Older people experience symptoms of depression that have gone undetected and untreated. Therefore, the proposed solution provides the elderly with overcoming depression and loneliness in everyday life and looking after themselves. An elder's life revolves around eating well-balanced meals and staying healthy. This system will include a food picture recognition capability for determining calories and nutritional content. The system will assess the area, size, and volume of food and provide advice such as activities to reduce food's calories. It will also propose alternative healthy food if there is any harmful food in the image. The use of diet to keep improving both health issues is a cornerstone strategy to manage depression in patients. Because chronic diseases and depression have similar physiology, equivalent dietary recommendations could be beneficial. Malnutrition is a significant issue among the elderly. On the other hand, adjusting food-related habits is complicated. Therefore, provide an intelligent meal planning application that recommends appropriate low-calorie food recipes based on the image or voice command of the ingredient.Publication Embargo PRODEP: Smart Social Media Procrastination and Depression Tracker(Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, 2022-11-04) Kulatilake, T.T; Liyanage, P.L.R.S.; Deemud, G.H.K.; De Silva, U.S.C; Sriyaratna, D; Kugathasan, AProcrastination refers to the voluntary delay of urgent tasks and can have several negative consequences such as stress, health issues and academic underachievement [47]. It is viewed within physiological research as a self-regulation failure [48]. Similar to procrastination, another severe problem which comes up within lots of people including students and teenagers is "Depression". Depression is a massively widespread problem among people around the world as well as in Sri Lanka [49]. As a result of procrastination and depression, students has to face academic underachievement. One of the main cause of these widespread problems are Social media over-usage [50]. Therefore this paper presents a new tracker which presented as a mobile application with four main components. This research study is about identifying and tracking users' facial emotions and eye-aspect ratio to analyze real emotions of the user via device inbuilt webcam to identify user fatigueness and procrastination. This study also analyzes user behavior in two selected social media platforms which are Facebook and Twitter and identifies the negativity and depressiveness of "Sinhala"content using Machine learning based Sentiment analysis approaches. Also as a companion, this paper introduces a chat-bot which communicates with the user in "Singlish"language. Our final products will be a complete mobile application which generates reports to the user based on the analysis done in the four components. As future work we will introduce AutoML approaches instead of traditional machine learning based approaches.
