English Language Trainer for Non-Native Speakers using Audio Signal Processing, Reinforcement Learning, and Deep Learning
    (IEEE, 2021-12-02) Jeewantha, H. C. R.; Gajasinghe, A. N; Rajapaksha, T. N; Naidabadu, N. I; Kasthurirathna, D.; Karunasena, A.
Lack of basic proficiency and confidence in writing and speaking in English is one of the major social problems faced by most non-native English speakers. Although the general adult literacy rate in Sri Lanka is above average by world standards, the English literacy rate is just 22% among the Sri Lankan adult population. Many individuals face setbacks in achieving their career and academic goals due to these language barriers. In a world where English has become a compulsory requirement to pursue higher education, career development, and performing day-to-day activities, "English Buddy" is a software solution developed to enhance the English learning experience of individuals in a more personalized and innovative way. The system provides an all-in-one solution while filling major research and market gaps in existing solutions in the e-learning domain. The system consists of a personalized learning environment, automated pronunciation error detection system, automated essay evaluation process, automated descriptive answer evaluation component based on semantic similarity, and real-time course content rating system. English Buddy is implemented using state-of-the-art technologies such as Audio Signal Processing, Reinforcement Learning, Deep Learning, and NLP. The LSTM, Sentiment Analysis, and Siamese network models have gained accuracy scores of 0.93, 0.92, and 0.81 respectively. Further, the UAT results proved that the personalized recommendations and pronunciation error detection processes are accurate and reliable. This research has been able to overcome the limitations of most existing solutions that follow traditional approaches and provide better results compared to the recent studies in the e-learning research domain.

Comparative analysis of the application of Deep Learning techniques for Forex Rate prediction
(2019 1st International Conference on Advancements in Computing (ICAC), SLIIT, 2019-12-05) Aryal, S.; Nadarajah, D.; Kasthurirathna, D.; Rupasinghe, L.; Jayawardena, C.
Forecasting the financial time series is an extensive field of study. Even though the econometric models, traditional machine learning models, artificial neural networks and deep learning models have been used to predict the financial time series, deep learning models have been recently employed to do predictions of financial time series. In this paper, three different deep learning models called Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM), Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) and Temporal Convolution Network (TCN) have been used to predict the United States Dollar (USD) to Sri Lankan Rupees (LKR) exchange rate and compared the accuracy of the models. The results indicate the superiority of CNN model over other models. We conclude that CNN based models perform best in financial time series prediction.

Guided Vision: A High Efficient And Low Latent Mobile App For Visually Impaired
(2021 3rd International Conference on Advancements in Computing (ICAC), SLIIT, 2021-12-09) Rizan, T.; Siriwardena, V.; Raleen, M.; Perera, L.; Kasthurirathna, D.
This paper presents a novel solution for visually impaired individuals. A mobile app is connected to an ESP32CAM and a remote server to help visually impaired individuals to navigate around their environment safely. A deep learning model is deployed in the mobile app to detect obstacles in real-time without connecting to the internet. Other tasks such as reading texts, recognizing people, and describing objects are done in the remote server. We managed to connect the mobile app to the ESP32CAM and the remote server simultaneously. This was possible because the ESP32CAM is connected to the mobile app through Bluetooth. This gave the mobile the ability to connect to the remote server via the internet. To the best of our knowledge, no research has been done using Bluetooth to stream images to do object detection in a mobile app locally. Hence, our solution can detect obstacles locally and do other tasks mentioned previously in the remote server. This paper discusses how the ESP32CAM, obstacle detection module, face recognition module, text reading module, and object description module was implemented such that a low latent and highly efficient mobile app is created using minimal resources.

    Computer Vision for Autonomous Driving
(2021 3rd International Conference on Advancements in Computing (ICAC), SLIIT, 2021-12-09) Kanchana, B.; Peiris, R.; Perera, D.; Jayasinghe, D.; Kasthurirathna, D.
Computer vision in self-driving vehicles can lead to research and development of futuristic vehicles that can mitigate the road accidents and assist in a safer driving environment. By using the self-driving technology, the riders can be roamed to their destinations without using human interaction. But in recent times self-driving vehicle technology is still at the early stage. Mostly in the rushed areas like cities it becomes challenging to deploy such autonomous systems because even a small amount of data can cause a critical accident situation. In Order to increase the autonomous driving conditions computer vision and deep learning-based approaches are tended to be used. Finding the obstacles on the road and analyzing the current traffic flow are mainly focused areas using computer vision-based approaches. As well as many researchers using deep learning-based approaches like convolutional neural networks to enhance the autonomous driving conditions. This research paper focused on the evaluation of computer vision used in self-driving vehicles.

Career Aura – Smart Resume and Employment Recommender
(2021 3rd International Conference on Advancements in Computing (ICAC), SLIIT, 2021-12-09) Dissanayake, K.; Mendis, S.; Subasinghe, R.; Geethanjana, D.; Kasthurirathna, D.
Recruitment and Job seeking are two major factors that are directly proportional to each other. Due to the competitive nature of the present world, the process of acquiring the best resource effectively and efficiently has become a challenging aspect for the companies. As a result, modern job portals have become increasingly popular to address the challenges identified in the early recruitment and job search process. The purpose of this research is to introduce an optimal solution to address the ineffective areas identified in the job and recruitment domain which can further enhance the recruitment and job seeking decisions by utilizing deep learning and sentiment analytic approach along with descriptive analysis. The proposed system recommends the relevant job opportunities by omitting the irrelevant job advertisements for job hunters who are interested in the IT job domain while they input their resume to the system and additionally, they can improve their career decisions by adhering to the prediction schemes. Moreover, the system facilitates recruiters to headhunt top talents efficiently once they input job requirements to the system and candidate suggestions are not only made depending on their resume information but also analyzing their LinkedIn endorsements.
