SMARKET-Shopping in Supercenters (Hypermarkets) with Augmented Reality
    (IEEE, 2021-12-17) Jayagoda, N. M; Jayawardana, O. R; Welivita, W. W. T. P; Weerasinghe, L; Dassanayake, T
Not so long ago, online shopping for groceries, electronics, and furniture items seemed futuristic. But today, it has become a norm to order requisites through online platforms using smart devices and deliver them to customers' doorstep. With the emerge of technologies such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, deep learning, augmented reality, retail becomes progressively effortless. One such emerging futuristic technology involved recently in online shopping is Augmented Reality (AR) which is rapidly adopted by many industries. In multi-story supercenters, also known as “Hypermarkets”, the customer often feels lost due to difficulty in finding exactly what they looking for, and also in conventional online shopping, often customers are in two minds whether to purchase an item or not since it lacks the proper visualization, touch, and feel of the product. In this research study, we propose a mobile-based solution with augmented reality, which assists the customer when shopping in-store as well as when shopping online to mitigate the difficulties and hesitancies faced while shopping. The results are commendable with 96.21 % accuracy in suggesting visually similar items and 89.59% accuracy in detecting emotional implications of product reviews.

Easy Learning: Augmented Reality Based Environmental Studies for Primary Students
    (IEEE, 2019-12-05) Wickramapala, T; Jayawardhana, L; Tharaki, S; Senevirathna, S; Gamage, N; Wickramarathna, J
Primary education is every child's fundamental right. According to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), primary schooling offers learning and educational activities typically intended to provide learners with basic abilities in reading and writing. The students find it difficult to identify trees and animals around them due to the lack of exposure to the natural environment. This research study introduces mobile based application (Easy Learning) which embraced augmented reality technology (AR) to motivate and aid learners in studying Environmental Studies in terms of identification of animals and trees. In order to provide sufficient knowledge about trees and animals, this research focuses on safe internet browsing and summarization for trees and animals. Easy learning suggest safe videos for kids and generates knowledge based questions to evaluate themselves as well. The study also evaluates whether the students like the features of the Easy Learning and the rate of knowledge change, through pre and post questionnaires given at the beginning and at the end of the implementation of Easy Learning. The findings proves that the Easy Learning as an interactive AR based learning instrument, for Environmental Studies which improves the learning curve.

Simulation of the Influence of environmental factors related to Greenhouses using Augmented Reality
    (IEEE, 2019-12-05) Shaleendra, T; Wishvamali, B. T; Gunarathne, N; Hareendran, S; Abeygunawardhana, P. K. W
With the vast growth of the population, increased production of agricultural products is necessary. Although the amount of land available for agriculture is limited, the demand for food products based on agriculture is expanding. The Organic food supply is scarce in the current food market; hence, their retail prices are higher than the other agricultural products which were produced with the use of pesticides. In this context, Greenhouse production is widely used all over the world with minimal pesticides and weedicides including Sri Lanka. Automated Greenhouses can be used to increase production with a minimum amount of human labor. With less use of human hours, it will produce more harvest than conventional Greenhouses which need constant human attention and care. The installation of automated Greenhouses is costly although their long-term benefits are higher than a conventional one. For this reason, introducing the concept to cultivators would be difficult, as they are reluctant to invest their money on unfamiliar technology. There is a hesitance to embrace technology since they don't have the first-hand experience in operating an automated Greenhouse. Therefore, in this paper, we present a simulated model of automated Greenhouse using Augmented reality, through which a client can visually experience the workings of IoT Greenhouse based on theoretical models beforehand to make an informed decision to invest in automated Greenhouses.

Augmented Reality Based Smart Supermarket System with Indoor Navigation using Beacon Technology (Easy Shopping Android Mobile App)
    (IEEE, 2018-12-21) Jayananda, P. V. K; Seneviratne, D. H. D; Abeygunawardhana, P. K. W; Dodampege, L. N; Lakshani, A. M. B
Augmented reality (AR) applications have recently become popular on modern smartphones. We explore the effectiveness of this mobile AR technology in the context of grocery shopping, in particular as a means to assist shoppers in navigating to the desired products and making healthier and beneficial decisions as they decide which grocery products to buy and even do shopping while staying at home. A supermarket is a customer base premises; means the customer is the one who decides what he is going to purchase and the customer satisfaction may be crucial. In-house shopping in supermarkets has earned popularity among majority of the customers and at the same time most of the customers looking for remote shopping which they can do get the shopping experience just sitting at home. Shopping malls has combined with the IT industry and create more innovative and creative apps, which are beneficial for both the customer and seller parties. So, the main objective of this work is to design a fully functional mobile application that has an innovative positioning and navigation system using AR core technology and Augmented Reality. The other major parts of this application are customer base shopping list handling, personalized recommendations by object detection using AR and remote shopping. Overall the scope of study involves research on AR core technology, Augmented Reality and other additional technologies. The idea of this work can be broadly applied to mobile devices such as mobile phones as an added physical shopping mall functionality using above mention technologies. The proposed Easy Shopping android based mobile app has been tested at the KEELS supermarket in Sri Lanka.

Accommodation Finder: An Augmented Reality Based Mobile Application Integrated with Smart Contracts
(2021 3rd International Conference on Advancements in Computing (ICAC), SLIIT, 2021-12-09) Parameswaran, G.; Perera, M.J.F.R.; Aluthgedara, C.R.B.; Amanda, E.D.N.; Ishara, W.G.A.; Ganegoda, D.
Accommodation is one of the basic needs for travelers, tourists, students, and employees. Accommodations range from low-budget lodges to world-class luxury hotels, but finding the preferable accommodation is undoubtedly a tedious task. And due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it has become problematic state to visit each accommodation property to check whether it's suitable for the accommodation seeker, considering the location, environment, and to check if the property matches the user’s preferences. There have been incidents reported where thousands of people have been victimized because of contract breaches in the accommodation and real estate sectors, recurring from contract alterations. Considering these problems, we have proposed a system to provide solutions using Natural Language Processing (NLP), Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR), Augmented Reality (AR), Block-chain, and K-Nearest Neighbor (KNN). This system provides an efficient approach to viewing the exterior and interior of an accommodation using 360-degree views, providing recommendations to the user based on user preferences using KNN and cosine similarity, providing security in a digital agreement using blockchain technology, and a map navigation system using ASR. With the aid of the previously mentioned techniques, a mobile application prototype is created with the possibility of future testing and implementation.

Dynamic 3D model construction using architectural house plans
    (Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research, 2017-01-26) Ruwanthika, R. G. N.; Amarasekera, P. A. D. B. M.; Chandrasiri, R. U. I. B.; Rangana, D. M. A. I.; Nugaliyadde, A.; Mallawarachchi, Y.
The paper presents a complete approach to a dynamic 3D model construction from 2D house plans. This tool assembles 3D models and overlays virtual model on the real 2D blueprint of a house (architectural or hand-drawn). Key content of this research covers three dimensions which are; Wall detection and Wall modeling, Roof detection and Roof modeling and Template matching of Doors/Windows. The end result will be mainly based on Image Processing and Augmented Reality technologies. This tool lets users easily manipulate 3D models in real time through their smartphones and to showcase architecture models are in an entirely new way.
